    Does anyone know what these are??

    Good day all,

    I was given these at the SOS last week and having never seen them before am stumped. They are photo cards measuring 12cm x 8cm and show military units from the latter years of the Reichswehr. Based on the uniforms I'd date them at about 1935 (with most of the pics being taken in the 1933-34 period, some even earlier). There are 12 groups of cards with each having 4 cards of subjects related to that particular group (Infanterie, Artillerie, Nachrichten, KM, etc..) The logo on the back of each is SALA.

    Is anybody familiar with this series and if so is there an album they go in, or were they just meant to be stacked up loose and/or tossed around so they could be lost?

    I'd like to complete the series and am missing the following cards:

    * All 4 cards of Group 1

    * 1, 3, & 4 of Group 2

    * 1 of Group 3

    If anybody could help in any way on these I'd be most grateful.

    Best regards!!

    Bob

        these cards are from "happy families" - in Germany called "Quartett".

          Thanks Gerdan

          I'm guessing these were nothing more than trading cards.

          Best!!

            Hi Bob,

            It is a type of card game that is still played here in Europe today.

            Four from the same group in your hand makes a set - so called "kwartet" in dutch and as Gerdan mentioned "Quartett" in german.

            My english dictionary shows "quartet(te)".

            I think that it will be easier to buy a complete other set as the one you have than to search for the missing cards.

            In those past days the purpose of this type of Quartett cards was to get the young boys interested in military.

            yours

              Thanks Eric, I agree. It seems like it would be too hard to complete these, but at least I know what they are.

              Thanks again to you and Gerdan!!

              Best!
