i think that it was for Printing office or personal effect ...
it was found with a paper where has been writteb "SCHUSSENRIED" (i suppose that it is the name of the soldier

I think Schussenried is not a family name. It is the name of a German town in Bavaria: (Bad) Schussenried.

Is the picture of the soldier made on metal, perhaps zinc?

It could be a cliché to be used for printing.
