Crazy Question

Hey all. I've been doing some research on one individual soldier, and he would send photos home to his wife who would put them in an album. Most likely these photos could have been converted to postcards or may have important writing on the back to decipher dates and such information. Unfortunately, his wife glued the photos into an album, so I'm sure there is no hope in removing them, or is there? My main idea was to ask if anyone knows any techniques (maybe by certain types of light) to see through the album paper and maybe to the back of the photo. In case it mattered, the paper is black.

Don't know of any 'special' tools to read through photos, but I will say I've been in the same situation plenty of times.

Usually, the photos will be glued on the four corners, possibly on only two corners and sometimes it's possible to carefully pull on the photo and peak underneath and read the captions. Of course, I would advise caution because if you're not careful you can pull a photo right off the page.

When your not sure, I would err on the side of caution and not pry to much. As much as curiousity is nagging at you to learn what's written, the feeling of guilt for accidentally or even intentionally pulling out a photo will probably bother you more in the end.

Unfortunately someone tried to remove a photo and failed, and it looks like his wife glued the whole back!



I always wonder what was there, and who else was in the torn photo. Strangly the man remaining is also seen in another photo that wasn't in the album.

If they're all glued on like that then i wouldn't bother. Sometimes you can see the impression of writing through a photo, you might have a chance then with a bit of playing around in photoshop.
