    Digital Photo Repair attempt

A friend of mine asked me what I could do with the photo he found that had a rusted paper clip on it. I had never tried one, so this was my first attempt at this type of thing. This is a small ID type photo. I forgot to say that on the back appears to say SS Obersturmbannfuhrer Wittrien.

      Hi Ron,

That's a great job you did!

May I ask what program did you use, and how much time it took to do this?

      Cheers, Thomas

Thank you Thomas. I used PhotoShop CS2 I think (I also have CS3, but I think it was CS2). Sorry, I didn't keep track of the time. It took quite a while though because it was the first time, and I was learning.

Thank you, you are very kind. I really wish I knew more about using it. I had been thinking about taking some kind of class in it, but haven't yet. I just don't have a great deal of time. I have sort of learned it "by ear" so to speak........trial and error. I am sure what I do has a much easier way to do it than I do. It is a very complicated program to learn to use in many respects.....and not very hard in others. Maybe I will decide to take a course in it soon.

I agree - I was a graphic designer (in a previous career!) but still use Photoshop all the time, and when I saw the first photo, I was thinking how tough it would be to fix... but you've done a good job. It seems you've done more than retouch the damaged photo... did you clone parts of the hat from another photo? The piping looks thinner and the rope-cord things above the brim have a bigger gap between them. If so, that's pretty advanced for a first-time effort.

                      Good work!

I'm an advanced PhotoShopper as well and agree with the previous comments, you've been a great job on this photo. Skin tones are always tough to blend-in properly, especially when having to replace such a large area. Good job!

                          Jason,

No, nothing was cloned from any other photo. There was so small amount cloned from this photo, and there were some areas selected and then flipped and pasted in other areas........with some rotating etc. and transformations done to fit in needed areas. Then I had to blend it in so to speak..........but everything came from within the photo itself........including parts of the right eye, which was made from the left eye. Sorry don't know the totally correct terminology.

If I send you my picture, do you think you could make me look 25 years younger?

                              Nice work!
