    Hilfskreuzer Pinguin.

Here are a couple of interesting pictures that arrived from Germany on Christmas Eve.The first one is of Ernst-Felix Kruder and his officers taken on board the Pinguin.Interesting in the fact that the Pinguin never returned to Germany. She was the first of the Hilfskreuzers to be sunk on 8 May 1941.

    Regards,Martin.

Another photo from the set depicting a slightly different aspect of life on board the ship.Kap.t z.s Kruder playing with his pet Dachsund.Apparently from the text on the reverse,a daily routine on board.

          Cheers,Martin.

              Hi Martin,

Nice Pinguin photos you show us here.
And as the known other Pinguin photos also taken during her working up period in Germany.
Interesting to see that they are captioned with that extra information on the back.

              Thanks

              Eric-Jan

                Hi Martin,

just to give some non-German speaking/reading members a chance to know what is written on the back of the photo:

Struppi (= name of the dog) spielt jeden Vormittag mit dem Kommandant eine Stunde auf dem Bootsdeck.
Diese Stunde gehört zur täglichen Routine.

Struppi every morning plays an hour with the Commander on deck of the ship.
This hour is part of the daily routine.

                  Gerdan,

                  thanks for the translation.

                  Eric-Jan,

with the Pinguin being sunk by HMS Cornwall i can only presume that these photoraphs or the negatives made it back to Germany on one of her captured prize ships.

                  Regards,Martin.

                    Martin,

from the stamp on the back of one of the photographs you can see that they

have been printed in Germany. Sorry but i cannot identify exactly the name of

the street ("... str. 25") nor the town which is not given, only Germania - Foto

which seems to be the name of the Photo shop.

                    Regards, Gerdan

                      Gerdan,

thanks for the additional information. The photogaph of the Pinguin looks like it was not made from the original negative. So i am presuming it is a period reprint. Here is a closer view of the stamp on the reverse.

                      Regards,Martin.
