    Post your "close call" photos.

    Hi guys

In this thread, post you photos of soldiers who survived very close calls: bullets going through helmets, etc.
I am not a photo collector, so dont have any original photos of my own; but I do have photos found in several books, magazines, internet sites, etc.

To start this thread, here is a photo scaned rom French Militaria Magazine number 207, page 23. A bullet, or small schrapnel tore throught this mans binoculars and through his ammo pouch, apparently without doing any harm to him!

Here are some french WW1 items in my collection. Apparently, the schrapnel was deviated or stopped by the mans bag, that had these items inside it.

An other lucky American soldier after the southern France landings. I found this on the web years ago, and cant remeber where. The damage was from flak schrpanl falling back down from the sky if I remember right.

                  Hello,

Helmut Wenzel, photo taken on May 11 1940 when he leaves fort Eben-Emael.
He survived a shot through the helmet both on May 10 1940 & May 20 1941!

                  Cheers,
                  Peter

                    Nettuno front 1944

Here´s one of mine. Close call at Nettuno, Italy 1944. You can see the bandage under his helmet.

That is a very nice and quality picture Oyvind.

Here is a "Nam" close call that I found while surfing the internet years ago. The damage was done by a bullet if I remember right.

                        Dear Jean-Loup,

you have been here long enough to know that I (as a moderator) do not allow posting scans from books (except for period books), scans from internet sites, etc except when it is necessary to do so.

I did not remove your earlier scans because I know you don't have any and you had to explain your intention - which I considered "necessary (though a bit too many!)". Of course it is good to start this interesting thread, and I hope more collectors can share their scans.

Let me repeat: this forum is where you post scans from your own collection (not scan collection), and I have to say it because it is the important difference from other fora out there.

                        Thank you for your understanding!

                          Hi Akira

Very honestly, I though it was OK to post photos from books as long as the original source was credited.
I had a few more photos, but I guess I will not post them then. Some real photo collectors can post something if they have any pictures.

Hi Jimmy, I thought you would visit this thread. Both you and your mate were very lucky during that battle. Did your mate keep his helmet?
I saw a guy at the hospital recently who had been shot in the head, with an entrance and exit wound but no damage to the skull. He was also very lucky. I have no photo though of course.
