                Nice little grouping.

Happy for him that he left U-518 at the right time, as she was later sunk with all hands.

Any idea if your man saw service on other subs too.

                  U-Boot grouping

Eric-Jan, in his notes U-123 and U-156 are mentioned. His Boot appeared lost in 1943 but then the family was notified that they had survived. According to his POW documentation he became a POW as of 13 August, 1944. Will include this documentation as attachment.

                        pzv,

                        Even getting better !!!

What a lucky guy he was then !, U-156 and U-518 sunk with all hands.
U-123 survived the war in Lorient.
When that was his last submarine than he would have been in Festung Lorient too, the Fortress last till the end of the war, so I have no idea how he got POW in 1944.
But who knows maybe you are able to find again extra information on your man.

Thanks for the extra information and scans !

                          Hello PzV and Eric-Jan

There is just one possible reason how he became a POW on that date, he was one of the 71 survivors of U-270!
PvZ, in what way are U-123 and U-156 mentioned in his papers?

                          Best regards
                          Roland Berr
