The reason could be that your man served in this time as a grenadier and not as
a panzerjäger in a tank....
I could sometime see such suspect awardes.
Until then it's Pz Jg companies would have just been issued with towed AT guns. even after March 1944 1./ and 2./ would still have had towed ATGs.
This man served in the same company as Angel's man but was killed only days before:

Angel - when was your man issued the IABiS? I notice he served with the Radf. Abt. 172 until July 1942. However, all soldiers of AA and Pz Jg Abteilungs should have got the GAB...but I think there was some confusion over who should have got what award among some units - i.e. Pz Jg crews in 14./ of Inf. Regt's nearly always seem to get the IABiS but sometimes don't.
PAB (iS and iB) I believe was supposed to be restricted to Panzer Division personnel but again there are exceptions.
Hi guys,
PzV, great grouping you have there! I have a few questions though as I am just getting into documents myself. Looks like the signature on the EK2 document is Mattenklott, the Div. Kommandeur, but he was not the Kommandeur in Oktober 1941, but the previous year. Looks like the commander at that time was Muller-Gebhard?
Have you identified the other signatures on the documents? It seems that I am easily able to find Divisional commanders and above, but nothing lower than that (Brigade, Regiment, or Battalion).
Thanks guys.
Tom
