    Waffen SS RK-Winner

I have a new question for you. Since I know most of the pros, often visit this photo section - I guess this is no match for you. But I have no clue when it comes to W-SS, so I need help.

    Who is this?

Thank's Tyler. Then I'll start looking for information on him. As I stated above. When it comes to Waffen SS I'm clueless. Except for the Norwegians to Waffen SS, and their different units.

            Hi Ralf,

How can you say for sure they are postwar - even if they are

                Ralf,

I suppose you mean reprints - but the question remains the same how can you say for sure? the color? ...........

I'd say the edges are the give-away. Always look at the edges . I have recently (unknowingly, but somewhat naive, as I found one of them on this forum as well ) bought a number of reprints with the same edge type (as far as I can see). While it doesn't show here, they are freshly cut (they're still blurred).

Unfortunately, the forgeres are getting better...

                    SS Photo's

                    Hello,
The recently purchased the same photo as the top right for $15 from a guy off eBay about 2 months ago. Immediately after the auction he emailed to say the he had approx. 100 more SS photo's for sale and offered them to me at $650. I told him I was interested, but wait until I had received my one photo first. When it arrived it turned out to be a nice quality reprint. Based on that experience I passed on the rest, but I saved the scans he sent me of all the other's for future reference. Here are a few of them including the one I got...John

Ralf knows it because they are from a known series? I'd appreciate if Ralf tells me the secret, thank you.

Though it is not immediately clear to me whether the top left photo is a postwar print, certainly the other three raise me a question. As you can see, they share the same edge pattern. Usually, if one find the same edge pattern, it means they are all processed at the same time at a photoshop. Edge pattern is sooooo rich in variation, like fingerprint. If the timeframe of two photos is apparently different and they share the edge pattern, it means to me that they were printed at a later time (I can not say "postwar" for sure, but...).

My experience is limited to a few thousands (don't have time to try it on all my collection...), but when you can match the edge pattern on two photos in a original lot of photos, they are always from the same filmstrip and printed at the same time. This is quite time consuming and someday I'd love to let somebody write a software to match edge pattern to find "brothers" of a photo... Consider a database with hundreds of thousands of edge information... Scan your photo and let the computer compare... to possibly find "his brothers". When I see invaluable photo groups being miserably split and sold, I dream this...

I hope somebody who knows better than me can help here regarding "postwarness".

                        Tor, John,

Were your pics bought on ebay - what was the name of the seller, were they sold as reprint?

                        Thanks

                        * in case one of you has a correspondance he wants to share with me fsaez@noos.fr

Francois! I didn't buy any of the photos, but the seller pointed out that this was postwar reprints. Nevertheless I bought 4 other photos of him, made on 4 different kind of photopaper, so it appeared. I haven't received they yet.

Since I collect photos, I want to be able to learn more about how to tell a postwar from a periode photo. I'll PM you the name who offered these photos.

                            SS Photo's

                            Hello Francois,
The photo's were not listed as reprints, but I don't think the seller used the word "original" either, clever enough...The seller's name was Rene Bauschen, I believe he is on eBay as just Bauschen...Good Luck! John

Bauschen send be a private e-mai lincluding a photograph I had recently bought from blueair100 on eBay. I suspect these work together, as they have the same edge patterns...
