the most valuable document of identification ( Ausweis )

    priceless !

    a note however extremely importantly.

    born 1921

end of POW russia 1949 Septembers.

    41 months Pow russia.

49 was the year of the last large dismissal.

    Bootmanager,

I have the same kind of document. It belonged to my grandfather and he was sent "home" (as Schlesien was not German anymore) from the same transit camp as the guy in your Ausweis was; Feldpost # 6/1948 was Entlassungslager Gronenfelde near Frankfurt/Oder east of Berlin.

My grandfather was born in 1925, volunteered in May 1943 and was taken POW at the and of the war, before returning to Germany in late 1949. So four years of captivity were the "price" for two years of war...

Maybe someone else would like to share their Ausweis.

    Regards
