OK, first pass through and will have to come back and see about the missing words and grammar... just typing this as looked at it one word at a time first time through.

      Sent to:

      Uffz. Emil Fauss

      Mozartstr.15

      Message:

      Rastenburg 7.6.43

      Lieber Emil!
Dank für dein Schrieb vom 9.5. der Iwan verordnete mir etwas Luftveränderung. Die Sache ist aber sehr harmlos.

Zum Pfingstfest dir und deiner lieben Frau meinen besten Wünsche und Grüsse.

Wo (? erreichen) dich wohl meinen Zeilen. Dein Wunsch ist ja jetzt nicht mehr erfüllbar. Aber da ist ja allen ( ) noch genug betätigungsfeld selbst für dich (? eifrigen).

      Treuem kameradschaftlichen Gruss! Alfons

      Sender:

      Abs. Uffz. (? Vilms) z.Zt.
      Rastenburg- (K?)arlshof
      Res. Laz. Abtlg, A ( )

So, Alfons "thanks" the Russians for "prescribing a change of air" for him-- his wound is nothing serious. he sends Pentecost greetings to his friend and fellow Unteroffizier Emil & wife, and then cryptically tells Emil that his "wish" "can no longer be fulfilled." Hmm.

Whaw.... That is quick. You must have a special talent to decipher these letters. When you see the text it all makes sense, but before that I wouldn’t have a clue.

Please take your time I am very curious to the rest of the letter.

        Thanks,
        Pascal

I just learned my German this way at home. Only Bernhard here actually learned it in school when everyone still wrote this way. It is the same basic handwriting used then in Sweden by that side of my family and in the English colonies here by my ancestors, so I read it a lot. Poor me!!

            Hello Pascal.
Rick has done a very good job. I may just be able to add a little to the subject:
"Wo erreichen Dich wohl.... Aber da ist ja allenthalben noch genug Betaetigungsfeld fuer Dich Eifrigen ."
Last line :Res. Lazarett Abtlg. A I (or II)
BTW: Rastenburg is located near the Wolfschanze. Wounded officers from the attempt on Hitler July 20, 1944 may very well have been treated at this hospital.

Thank you very much for decoding the FeldPost letter. It makes such a difference once you know what is written.

              Thanks you all once again,
