His unit was positioned to the South of Charkow in May 1942 when the Russians tried to take the town. Klaiber prevent a breakthrough of a heavy Russian tank unit by destroying 20 tanks. During the battle Klaiber was always postioned in the first line and fire guided his Batterie in a remarkably cool manner. His intervention was considered decisive to the outcome of the battle.
He was wounded severly in the Prague area on ... 8 May 1945(!) and died the next day.
