    Album on eBay

Here is an album I have seen on eBay.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA:IT&ih=001

I do not like it and I wish to ask/inform you all about it. Other opinions?

I have FOR SURE seen the photo on the second page bottom left somewhere recently. I believe IF these are original it might be a put together? I'm also not completely certain about the description of the unit. I mean which unit did this:

TOP-original antique PHOTO ALBUM German ELITE DIVISION! = Training to combat in the Balkans 1941 + at the Eastern front until 1941/1942 final at the West Front / Normandy 1944- Berlin 1945
I guess it could be "Kurt Eggers"?

Besides the one photo you are sure that you have seen recently what are the reasons you don't like it?

Aside from that I don't know if historically any SS unit was involved in all of those conflicts.

EDIT: I am however ready to bet my life I've seen the photo before. It isn't a maybe, it's for sure.

        Hi Mansal

In the time I have been collecting photos I am beginning to see the same photo from time to time.

In my collection I have some photos that have been developed twice or more.

This photo could have been printed several times.

        Cheers

        Karl

          Mansal,

I think you are on the right track.....this album smells of repro prints from possible negatives....the size of the photos doesn't look right. It also appears that the photos were placed in an album that had already been used and photo removed...although that isn't a major factor. A look at the reverse of the pics or a blacklight test may reveal something but most likely that will not happen and this album will probably sell for a very high price...unfortunately for the new owner. I woulld pass on it...too risky. Bill

yes, very unusual photo format size...

...but most importantly it would indeed take a brave man to bid so high on a seller with zero feedback and a dodgy sounding username !

              Hello members

There was allready an discussion in an german forum about this album because a member got exactly the same pictures in an album one month ago!

So the pictures are 100% post 1945 and there exist´s 1000% more than one copy of this snapsshoots! ;-)

On the back they are only Agfa marked, and that is typical for post 45!

So please keep your money for good stuff and don´t buy rubbish!

              cheers Buckeru

                Good catch.

Never noticed the size of the photos and the pre used photo hinges on the paper.

                Cheers

The negatives (and prints) are 6x6 standard, not strange. "Agfa" are postwar except for Postkarten.

The album is original but re-used, and all photos are bad.

Akira, I'm afraid you are wrong.
I have one post-war photo of the same type in my collection as a reference. Here's what I did with that photo (which shows an artillery tractor) and 3 original 6x6 photos in an album of the same size as the one shown in the auction. See the difference, and the resemblance of the one photo with the others in the fake album? (Size of the fake: 8x8)

Tim, you're right, the prints are not 6x6 in size, they are enlargements for sure... (I love contact prints, not enlargements)

Looking at the album my concern was as Bill noted the prior photo mounts in the album and the large size print of an 6x6 neg. This type of high end photos would make me hesitate to add it in my collection for the above questions.

On an aside note I wonder if the same person that is faking this is the the same fellow or simular fellow that sent that email to forum memeber "TOR"? are we seeing the next generation in the faking business?

I saw the negatives of the armoured car/halftrack photos offered by a german militaria seller about a year ago. I wanted them myself but they were a bit too expensive. I guess someone found a way to make profit from them...

                          cheers

The same process was in action last week on Germen eBay. A set of negatives that I wanted some time earlier in the year but missed, appeared for sale a couple of day later. These sold. A couple of months later they appeared again as the buyer did not finish the transaction.

The interesting part was this seller had an album from his grandfather with the exact same pictures from the negative set.

It only sold for 24 euro. I left the negatives alone.

                            Cheers

Very scary stuff. I guess these are my first steps into catching the fakes! Woo I'm learning and thank you all for helping fost it!

                              Mr. Takiguchi,

I'm curious about this "Agfa" only being postwar? Is this for certain sizes or for everything? Is "Agfa" short for "Agfa Brovira" or are they different?

                              Thanks,
                              Mansal
