      WWIIBuff:

Your photo was taken at the funeral of Leutnant zur See Johann-Konrad Klocke, former Adjutant of the HSK Widder, and later officer aboard Schnellboot S 121.

Died in action on 11 Aug 1943 when the 4th and 5th S-boat Flotillas made a raid from L´Abervrach to Plymouth Bay and were attacked by two waves of British fighter-bombers.

The S 121 under Klocke was sunk. This wartime burial is in Brest.

After the war he was moved and buried in Ploudaniel-Lesneven Cemetery, France, Block 13, Row 5, Grave 188.

        Funeral

Thanks for that great information Joe. Have you seen this picture before or do you have others from the same funeral? I have three more shots of the funeral. These are from a group of photos from the estate of LtKpt. Müller of the 5. S-Booteflottille.

This is one of my favourites........the holder was a member of 7 and 2 Schnellboot Flottille and actually entitled to those awards....perhaps not 3 S-Abzeichen at the same time but maybe had 3 different ones........

He was awarded his EK II for taking part in the sinking of my home town's ship, HMS Lightning! EK I for actions around D-Day.

Interestingly, tropical tunic and snow on the ground!

            John:

Ref your questions regarding the funeral...I've seen the photo before, but I don't own a copy of it, nor any others from the funeral. The only reason I know of it is because there is a former auxiliary cruiser crewman in the photo and it is the funeral for another former auxiliary cruiser crewman.

            Ian:
Your photo is amazing!!! I would say it is easily the most interesting of them all! Three S-boat badges and an EK-2 linked a bit to your home town, then to top it off an the uniform and the snow---that's a keeper for sure!

              S-Boot Badge

Thanks Joe. I was just curious.

Ian I agree with Joe. That is one awesome picture, thanks for posting it.

Here is another from the same group as the funeral picture I posted above.

                S-Boote

Somebody aked me if I can identify any of the officers in the above photo. The only one I know for sure is the one on the left of the three saluting. He is Oberleutnant zur See, Karl Müller, commander of S52 from the 4. Schnellbootflottille.
