    1945 Nuremburg in Colour

Im working at the weekends to restore every part of my colour home movie taken in nuremburg in 1945 by a american airforce officer to its original glory. Checking and Restoring every cell in high resolution. its a lot of work but when its done, it should be a magnificeint piece of historical film.
I will be posting clips from this project whens its completed on my website www.springpress.ie but until then i thought it would be nice to post some snaps from the film. I was only able to do this with 16mm movie film for the first time, two weeks ago when i bought a new film scanner, also movie film scanner.
    I hope you enjoy guys

Extraordinarily impressive! A rich reward for what must be a lot of hard work. Having just watched Ken Burn's documentary The War on PBS in the U.S., I am aware of the scarcity of colour film taken on the Allied side in the ETO. There seems to be some pretty good stuff for the Pacific from late 1943 on, but not for the ETO. Best wishes for a successful project!

              Wonderful!

Maybe you could enlighten us all a little, and take us through the processes and time it takes to restore film.

I have no idea, though I imagine it requires many hours of hard work.

                your collection

Very interesting work you are doing and I noticed your websight has photos of your collection.
I am curious to know what percent are colored slides versus actual colored photos.

To process this rare film, i bought a new film scanner called a PF3600 PRO.
It allows the user to scan 6 cells at a time in high resolution. I have set the resolution to 3000dpi.
-This created a strip of 6 cells at about 25 megabites.
-Then i pull these strips into Photo Shop CS3. I use the very powerful tool of colour correcting+increase colour saturation by roughly 20 percent.
-then i increase the contrast levels by 10 percent UP. Also american war film has a little strong yellowing in there dies. So the film should be balanced to blue pigment at 12 perecent. -Then each cell is cropped to the correct dimensions of the individual cell. After this process is done, repeat. I believe photoshop can batchprocess these system, which im investigating currently.
-Afterwords i use Windows Movie Maker which is free and easy to use.
-Just drop in your cells into the storey board-
Then set the timeing for each cell to about 1 second.
After youv done about 60 seoncds worth.
-Drop in some fun MP3 music and play away.

please feel free to ask any questions.
I hope to update this tread as i learn more and develop further.
