I'm not the guy you are looking for, but I would remark on the fact that the roughly 6,500 members of the Ingenieurkorps der Luftwaffe sure had a tough time getting promoted. In fact, this fellow spent the duration of the war as a Flieger-Ingenieur (= Leutnant) d. Beurlaubtenstandes (= reserves). Granted, he never went anywhere and spent the war supervising several different air base workshops (Werften), but shouldn't he have at least been promoted to Flieger-Oberingenieur (= Oblt.)?

The sad part is this appears to from a set of at least 3 other documents. It hurts to see sets that survived this long broken up to maximum the dealer's profit. Since this is a recent event, if anyone knows the whereabouts of these pieces, please drop me a line as I would like to try to put this set back together.

I am hoping you can find a moment for a brief comment on the promotion policy within the Luftwaffe's Ingenieurkorps. I am not the only one who would be interested in your learned comments on this obscure subject, including our friend "PaulR".

I am sorry for the delay. I wanted to get the correct answer.

Basically, It appears the Ing. Rückershausen was a Wartime member of the Corps of Engineers. They were civilian engineers brought into the service of the Luftwaffe for the duration of the war to fill billets. These men were given a ranking based upon their age, experience, and schooling. Once assigned a rank, they were non promotable. (Thanks to PaulR for this reference.)

I have a lot of information on the Ingenieurkorps, mostly taken from Horst Boog's fine study, Die deutsche Luftwaffenführung 1935-1945: Führungsprobleme, Spitzengliederung, Generalstabsausbildung (Stuttgart: Deutsche Verlags-Anstalt, 1982; ISBN 3-421-0195-3, 724p, 2,912 footnotes. Boog provides a lot of information on the Ingenieurkorps but never once mentions its promotion policy. So my sincere thanks for finding this out for me. Coincidentally, I helped Paul with some key information on the Luftwaffe general staff officers just a couple of months ago, but it never crossed my mind to ask him this question about the Ingenieurkorps.
