    Show us your HJ Photos

    Hello,

I recently acquired two HJ photos and I thought that I'd share them. Two of the boys have patches on their sleeves. Can someone tell me what they meant? Below is photo number 1.

Here is photo number 2. These boys are possibly brothers and may have been in the Deutsche Jung Volk.

John, the upper patch is the Tradition-arm-triangle / Area-arm-triangle, the lower patch is the Deutsches Jungvolk patch.

        Hi GK,

Thanks for your help. So all three boys would be DJV members, that's very interesting. So the triangle patch would tell basically where the boy was from, is that correct? Can you see in photo number 2, where the boy on the right is from, based upon that patch? I can't make it out due to the writing being in that fancy script. Also, thanks for the websites.

            Hi Michael,

Thanks for your help once again. So the boys in photo 2, were from somewhere in Thueringen. Where is that in Germany? It's too bad that the boys aren't identified.

Why do you suppose the boy on the left has no patches on his sleeve? He doesn't have the triangle patch nor the DJV symbol patch. Too bad in the photo of the boy by himself, he didn't turn his left arm a bit more so that one could see his triangle patch. Then you could see where he was from.

                        Hello John!

Here a photo of my uncle Helmut, the elder brother of my mother Ingrid, year of birth, 1933.

On his sleeve, the Triangel patch shows:

                        Ost
                        Sudetenland

                        Sudetenland: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudetenland

After 1943, uncle Helmut was a NPEA (Napola) scholar in Austria, at the end of the year 1946, the little boy walked back home by foot, from Austria to Northern Germany, starving...

P.S. The correct abbrevation is DJ = Deutsches Jungvolk.

P.S.S. Uncle Helmut never talked about his former time in the NPEAs, the Eliteschulen back then, his two adult children do not know nothing about their fathers time in these schools.

This is a discreet subject over here in Germany, even in the year 2007.

Sorry, the correct spelling is Hessen-Naussau.

                            Hi Michael,

What was the NPEA? Is your uncle still alive? If so what are his thoughts about his time with the Deutsches Jung Volk?

                              Hello John!

The NPEA (Nationalpolitische Erziehungsanstalt) was a Elite School, comparable to the so called
Adolf-Hitler-Schule, my uncle Helmut was a scholar in the NPEA St. Veit, in Kaernten, Austria, from early 1943 to the end of the war, 1945.

In the year 2004 the german movie Napola - Elite fuer den Fuehrer was released, it is a well done movie, the very first movie to explain the complicated subject NPEA/Napola, I like to recommend this movie, it is a MUST SEE!

It is a very sad movie, a tragedy on celluloid, but worth seeing...
