well picked up this new book and thought you might want to buy it, it has the best photos i have seen in one book! coat me about 37.00 but really worth it.

I have never seen this photo before and never seen a patch put on this bad?

so put this on your want list! came out just a month or so ago?

The author, Didier Lodieu, is functional in English and is a regular on Feldgrau and Axis History Forum. He seems to have knack for obtaining previously unpublished photos on rather obscure subjects. He recently published another book, also in French, on one of the Lw.-Felddivisions located along the Channel coast in June 1944.

The badge is (well known) for Kuban Kossaks either red/yellow or green/yellow colors within the shield ("Uniforms and Badges of the Kossaks in the German Army by Schuster and Tiede).

Ya i know the patch well, but I have never seen a volunteer patch put on that bad? it looks like he just sewed it on without tucking the cloth under, I guess he was one of the uneducated volunteers??

Thank you, now I understand what you have meant. Yes it is uncommon that these patches were fixed without putting the not used cloth underneath. It seems to be fixed only with few stiches and one obviously has opened.
