Hello fellow forum members,
I would like to ask for anyone to please help me with some research that I have been doing for the last fifteen years.
About 15 years ago my family was contacted by a man that was researching the circumstances of his uncles death in 1940. He had been killed while serving in the British army during the period immediatly after the evacuation of Dunkirk. He had found out that his uncle was killed with my grandfather, and was keen to find out if our family had any idea about the circumstances of their deaths.
Needless to say, information regarding the details of British soldiers deaths at
that stage of the campaign were sketchy to say the least. We could not help him, in fact it was two years after Grandfather was listed as Missing befor they were able to confirm he had been K.i.A.
To cut a very long story short, the long process of research is at an end, all the circumstances have been painstakenly revealed useing various sources from all over the world.
The two men were in fact killed along with three french artillerymen, and a Senegalese colonial soldier having just destroyed one of the bridges in front of Rommels advance toward the Seine.
The one thing that I would dearly like is to see some photographs of the area at the time. British troops rarely took pictures, none exist that I am aware of. I recently bought a photograph album from Australia that included one or two photos of an area close to where Granpa and his mates took a last stand.
I was hopeing that someone might share pictures they have, perhaps from the German side.
The date of the action was the 13th june 1940.
The bridge was at Criquebuef-sur-seine.
I know he had fought at Pont-de-l'Arch, also at Evreux and Igoville
Any pictures of anywhere around these areas or Rouen or Elbuef. Would be wonderful.
I really hope you guys can help, ....regards, and best wishes to everyone.
Mr Slug.
