Here is a series of interesting documents from a former 24th Panzer Div soldier who served in Stalingrad, Normandy, Arnheim and took part in the attempt to free Budapest. He surrendered to the Americans with a Russian T-34.

Here is the verification that he was part of a "Kampfgruppe" during the encirclement of Stalingrad. He was able to escape the pocket of Stalingrad due to the fact that he had to take a damaged Panzer to a repair depot outside of the "ring of enclosure". At that time he was a Pz mechanic and every man who could carry a weapon (or operate a tank!) was put into combat to close the gap and solidify the front.

It is interesting to note that Leutnant von der Trenck who signed the 2nd page recently passed away about 2 months ago in Weinheim. Here is page 1 of the Wehrpass.
