Help with photo showing japanese or US plane

    Hello all,

could somebody tell me what kind of plane the photo is showing? Maybe something about the unit symbol?

    thanks

Looks like a Grumman F8F Bearcat fighter. I don't know what unit that is, but the aircraft was used by the American and French navies as far as I know.

      Hi Christian,

looks like a Grumman F-8 F Bearcat indeed, from Royal Thai Air Force in my opinion:

The Japanese did not put unit insignias on the nose of their aircraft. When these were applied, they were in the form of Kangi characters, lightening streaks, arrows, geometric designs, etc., relating to the unit or the individual and were placed on the tail or along the fuselage aft of the cockpit. Now, I am sure that if we were miraculously able to go back in time and look at all 70,000 aircraft produced by Japan during the Pacific War we could find a few exceptions, but probably not many.
