    Looking again Ade, I think you're right. Same as the top and dark as the centre band. Black for pioneers maybe?

      Hi Gene, the point of the wing tip looks uppermost to me and not central like an SS eagle?? Anyway no worries

      Hi Ben, yes, non regulation use of Heer cap eagles and even breast eagles as sleeve eagles is not unknown with the Waffen SS. I did blow up the pic on my PC to check the piping, but it came out too fuzzy to post on the forum.



      What I was starting to wonder about was what if these caps started life as Heer coloured piped caps which were converted to SS use with a new cap band and deathshead. No way to tell of course from a pic but just a though.

                The first Knights Cross holder is Obersturmfuhrer Ernest Staudle. He was awarded the KC on 10.04.1942 while an Oberscharfuhrer with the 8/SS Pz. Art. Rget. 3, Totenkopf Division. He died on 11 July 1946 as a POW in Russia.
