    Early Gebirgjäger Foto (uniform question)

    Servus Gebirgsnarren....

Take a look at this foto. The Gebirgsjägermütze just the cocard and no arm badge.

When would this foto have been taken. 1935? 1936?

    Hi Erich,

    Very nice picture !

    Ok, here's my opinion:

These caps are the Reichswehr type, a bit more gray than green cloth was used. They all have the pointed shoulderstraps, gray/brown backed breasteagles. The trousers are the 'later' type, that is, not with the leather knee-pads. I guess your dating would be the same as mine.

The Edelweiss was granted in 1939, so that's no surprise.

    Mit freundlichen Grüßen,
    Bart

could it be, that these are austrian-bundesheer troops shortly after a half-heartedly "germanification" in 1938?

          Hallo Werner,

Nope, these are regular Wehrmacht troops, original German. As far as I know, the Austrians never wore the Reichswehr Bergmütze.

Also, note the guy at the right ... First model Schneetarnung and Gebirgsjäger gloves.

Does the guy on the left have something on his right (wearer) shoulderstrap or is this not in the original picture ?

Erich, if you ever want to get rid of this picture ...

          MfG,
          Bart
