Are they both of the same policeman? If so, the top is lower rank than the second being Wachtmeister. Absolute branch identification is impossible with black & white photography, although he is likely Schupo (that's wat I would assume unless otherwise marked). They are waring the basic tunic referred to as M36 due to date of introduction.

I do have to say the first picture provides and excellent shot of the police stag handled bayonet in wear.

Very nice pictures! Try posting them in the Police Uniforms Forum if you like more comments.

I agree with Dave. Top photo seems to be Schutzpolizei, or large city and barracks/riot police. Interesting that he is wearing a bayonet AND a pistol. I always thought it was one or the other.

The second photo has dark colored sleeve eagles, probably not SchuPo but impossible to tell exactly what color. My guess would be Gemeindepolizei, or municipal police carmine red or Feuerschutzpolizei, ie; armed fire police with carmine insignia.

Quite a striking young lady in the background as well!

Rove the bottom picture is a killer is it possible to stick the picture in a scanner and see if you can get a close up of the eagle, I would like to buy that one if it came up for sale

This has nothing to do with a police officer's uniform thread, but.....

I stumbled across the thread and noticed the young woman as well.

As a former Police Officer, I can tell you that I was amazed by the numbers of young women I attracted merely because I wore the uniform.
Certainly, not my charm or good looks

Luckily for me (???) I was married some three years and had two children and a lovely wife at that time, who is still my wife some 45 years later (one more child also), so I did not partake in the silly business that many of my fellow Police Officers did.

A throwaway post, but maybe some will enjoy it.

Wow, I didn't really look at her at first but she is really something!!!

Branch is a big unknown with B&W pictures. The one sleeve eagle appears darker than the other sitting policeman but look how light the collar tabs are on both, then look at how dark the collar tabs on the standing policeman are. It's all lighting and B&W photography making it a big unknown. Best would be if they wrote the branch of service on the reverse!

To CT cops they were often referred to as, "groupies."

The lady in the picture might have been the officer's wife or sister. I doubt that they would be dumb enough to have themselves photoed with a "groupie, donut dollie" or a "beat wife," especially in those days. But I have seen a lot of cops over the years do some real stupid things with cameras while engaging in some form of "silly business", so who knows.

She is a very nice looking woman.
