    Demjanskschild Doc Help

    Greetings all

I was wondering if anybody have ever seen this particular type of Demjansk doc with the month of issue indicated by the number , rather then in writing. I know that there are Demjansk docs with numerically indicated dates, but they are of different variety . Just a note , the reverse side of the doc shows some deep letter imprints, definitely ruling out a possibility of it being a photocopy fake. THX

This is what you usually see on this doc.

I don't know if it's just the scan but the thing looks far to 'new'.

Interestingly, Forman's book on award docs shows a different style of this doc to member of the same battery in the same regiment. As a rule of thumb you should see the same style of doc to the same unit within the same period of time.
Without being any kind of expert on the Demjansk battles this doc has the alarm bells ringing.

The unit named wasn't in existence and didn't participate during the battle but it's not unusual to see a later unit to which the recipient was posted given on the award.

Agree, it looks sort of fresh. On top of that , just found another one in my files. Same doc type and the same issue date . But the date is what it should be like. I guess, I'll have to pass this one by.

A few years back, when eBay allowed documents, there were several people selling exact copies of most of the documents issued during the war. These documents were printed from original copies and could only be shown to be copies by the type of paper (feel) and by using a loop to see that the printing and signatures were a dot matrix.
