    Flak tower photo on eBay

I thought this photo was very interesting, and thought I'd post it here for others to see. What a monolith! I didn't catch the eBay number. It's present on eBay for auction at this time...an original photo.

This "Flak tower" is more an air-raid shelter (Hochbunker) still existing in Darmstadt ( a town south of Frankfurt am Main):

These types of towers were built as part of the Westwall defences. Cheers, Torsten.

              Air raid shelter (Luftschutz raum)

There are still plenty of these structures around. Here's a current picture of one. Note its use!

                wall thickness

This is what it looked like during the remodel, converting it to a McDonalds!
You can tell by the wall thickness that these structures can take a serious beating! Note also the build date (1940).

"M" - the poster child of visual polution.......
I remember seeing one right in the middle of the medieval part of old Freiburg im Breisgau near the university.
No wonder most of the world hates my country.

It's amazing the defense system the Germans had during the war. These bunkers would have made wondeful defense fortifications. They remind me of the huge three-story square bunkers I used to see in the old shipyards in Richmond, CA back in the 70's. It is a shame these bunkers in Germany are not all preserved as national historical landmarks. McDonalds did a good job of destroying one of more of them for their fast food industry.

Even during the war, the big "M" was in Europe. Mikail "D" fed unidentified
meat byproducts to Axis prisoners. I have the proof....check out the

After the war ended, the Marshall Plan paid war reparations for the
loss of business during the years 1933-1945.
