    Standard bearers photo

Here is a photo I received last week. It is the second photo I have had showing the Wehrmacht standard being displayed. This looks to be the classic Swallow tail standard but I don't know the color. The interesting thing to me is the man carring the standard has his gorget on, if you look at his right shoulder you will see the standard bearers patch and he has a marksman layard on as well. If front and back are two Officers with their swords drawn. The flag carrier appears to be wearing a medal and the officer in front has a badge on but I can't make it out. Even though I collect WWI medals--I find these photos fun. Mike

Because the standard bearer is wearing riding boots and breeches, I'd say this is either a cavalry or horsedrawn artillery/transport unit. With everyone in M1936 tunics and M1935 helmets, but no WW2 awards, probably dates 1937-39.

I've got a similar pair of photos to an infantry regiment at what appears to be the identical barracks/field complex--obviously these establishments were all built to similar plans.

All standard bearers should have worn a gorget when on parade. Its part of the regulation standard bearers uniform.
      cheers, Rik
