    Different kind of Award ceremony

Going through the odds and ends boxes I came across a bunch of pics that were part of a group of assorted items I picked up a few years back. Anyway here's a pic of an award being given at a track and field competion.I can't read the caption on the reverse except for the date, 6-41.

Also notice the guy to the left of the officer handing out the award, the one with his foot pearched on the curbing. I think he was a sore loser and got angry and stole the officers hatas the next pic shows the award winner , an NCO and the officer minus his caplooking in astonishment into the distance

Neat photos Paul--rather than the sports outfit tank tops with the enormous eagles, these guys are wearing regular soccer pullovers with normal tunic breast eagles!

The inscription is "Football game in Leiden 3 against 4 Comp."

One of our Dutch members may know where this athletic field is. Note the distinctive row houses too--just saw identical types watching "A Bridge Too far" on TV the other night.

      Hi Rick,
Thanks for the translation, now the pic makes more sense, I hadn't paid attention to the fact that the groups on either side of the officer are wearing diffent color jerseys. What threw me off was another pic in the series of a track event. I'll post that one donw below.
Now if you can be so kind here's the reverse of the pic of the capless officer.

Now the track event, although they me be running after the guy who stole the officer's hat

Here's one more of the spectators, these guys were taking no chances of getting their hats stolen

Luckily this was an INFANTRY unit and not artillery--I hate to think what this guy's handwriting would have done to fire coordinate notes!

Top line "Beim Sportsfest in Leiden"... "At an athletic contest in Leiden..." what can you say about somebody whose capital "B" looks exactly like "Sp?" Then it says "Btl. Kommandieur beim Ku"gel stossen" which would be "Battalion Commandier (sic) at the shot put"--THAT'S where his hat went! The last photo is "Guests at the sports contest in Leiden."

Notice the officers are ALL wearing straight legged piped dress uniform trousers with their service tunics!

I'm just worried about that "guest" officer, front and center in the last shot-- you notice how he's stashed his dagger?

A guy could hoit hisself dat way!!!

And rubber raincoat man? What's all THAT about? Is he playing with his dagger or...

Hope I made you laugh Paul, you've earned a few, lately!
