    1932 Landespolizei recruit photo

I picked up what I thought was a WWI photo album and was very pleased to find a number of these photos. Turns out that the entire album is based on the State Police circa 1932-33. Here is a photo of Georg Voit. Thanks to Rick L.-tunic was dark green with Freekorps style collar tabs. If interested-I will post other photos-- Enjoy! Mike

Here is another photo from the album. This one is very interesting. In the center is Adolf Hitler. To his right is a group of SS in black, wearing what I believe are early style uniforms and hats (Hats have the small style party eagle above the tokenkoff). On Hitlers left is a group of Landespolizei, some in unifrom and others not. Looks like an early SA guy on his left as well.Once again photo dates between 1932-33. Did not expect to see this one in the album!

The odd oaksprig collar insignia for LaPo enlisted men were ordered replaced by army enlisted style per order of 19 October 1933, and on 10 April 1934 a national cockade was added in addition to the lone Bavarian cap cockade, as well as replacing the blue and white shako cockade with the black-white-red one.

Army style rank insignia for enlisted men were introduced by order of 20 June 1935, though by that time most of the career enlisted personnel (those with under 7 years time already in) had already been transferred to the newly legally expanding Wehrmacht.

The new Reichs uniform regulations for the Schutzpolizei removed the last regional uniform variations, though old stocks with new insignia were worn by wartime Police Reservists and reactivated retired personnel.

In visiting with Rick Lundstrom, I showed him this picture of a Landespolizei Chaplain that was in the album as well. Since this was the first picture he had seen of one, I thought that I would share it with the forum. Ya never know, may run across the cross and wonder what you have. The second picture is a group photo showing them wearing their Police Shako's. I tend to enjoy the oddball stuff so with that. Enjoy! Mike

The Chaplain photo is quite a find. I assume that since this is a cross and not a crucifix he was the Protestant chaplain. I'm sure there would only have been one each, Catholic and Protestant, at any given time--like an army Division.

Since he is wearing his Bavarian Military Merit Order (?) ribbon before his Iron Cross, with the WWI Hindenburg Cross, I would take this to date late 1934-very early 1935.

Wish I knew who he was!
