    City Location?

    Hi

I am hoping this building is a one of a kind and some of our members might be able to make a positive id and name the city.

    Cheers

It's 100%, definitely Kharkov, main square.

    All the best,

Here's a bit more info. The square is called Dzerhezinsky Square and was touted at the time as being the largest square in Europe. It was renamed "Ploshchad Svobody" (Freedom Square) after the war and again renamed in 1991 upon Ukrainian independence: "Ploshchad Nezavisimosti (Independence Square).
The building is the Gosprom complex, symbol of Kharkov. I quote from the fantastic article about Kharkov in "After The Battle", Number 112:
"One of the most widely known edifices [...] is the Gosprom (House of State Industry) complex on Dzerhezinsky Square..."

Almost every German soldier who had a camera when he passed through Kharkov had his photo taken on this square.

      Hope that helps.

        Thanks

Trying to pin down the history of the unit and information is hard to come by.

        Cheers
