I am sorry about your uncle who was missing in Stalingrad. Perhaps you can find closure soon.

I hope your father is still alive and well?

This guy's war should have stopped in 1918. In 1941, he was sent to the Eastern Front instead.

Stefan, that photo in #8 is very intriguing. Is that a fly resting on the eyes of the man on the left, while he is still staring into nowhere?

Mike, that 1st picture you posted is great, may i suggest that he sees a Doctor pretty quick, there was a joke in a show once about being dead but somehow still alive......
Tim, that happened a lot i guess in the later war years, some poor veteran from the 1st war being called up for the Eastern Front.

Tim, as it is most probably a photo depicting a group of soldiers that surrendered at Stalingrad it was most probably taken during January 1943 or the first week of February. As such and judging from the way some of the soldiers protect their head from the cold I would be very surprised that what we see is a fly sitting on the eye of the man at the left. No, this must simply be a stain on the photo.

That sounds reasonable to me Stefan.
If this is really taken before the years of Russian POW camps, it's easy to understand why only a few of the Stalingrad POW's survived.
