    Unopened letter....

I have this letter, and although I think I understand it, I am looking for confirmation/clarification on the second and last two words in the pencil sentence.

    Thanks

    Sebastian

Let me stew on it. Soldier was KIA, so should be easy to figure out. I'll send it to my friend who collects documents and is absolutely great at reading handwriting.

Für Grossdeutschland gefallen or 'fell for Greater Germany' followed by 'Tromme Feldw.(Feldwebel)'.
This was a standard text inserted on Feldpost letters sent to military personnel K.I.A.to be returned to sender. Signed I believe by Kompagnie Hauptfeldwebel/ company sergent major.

Hopefully the sender knew his/her friend/loved one was deceased before the letter came back. What a pisspoor way to find out someone was KIA.
