I have the citation of the KVK II with Swords to Hauptmann Karl Schaab, later German Cross in Gold winner to see his citation go to the German Cross section, and is signed by the Commanding General of the LXVI Reserve Korps.

    Cheers

        Hello,

Usally citations for KVK first and second class bearing original or facsimile signatures from high ranking officers.

These citations are fairly priced, almost bargain, and i hope to remain these prices in the future.
Here it is one signed by GFM Ernst Büsch and i got it almost free!

People tend to consider the KVK as a second rate award and not with the category of Iron Crosses and combat badges so only interesting in groups acompaining such awards. They are usually priced so low as people tend to think that this were a compensation to people who was in the homeland and has Party conectins to avoid the real combat. That's not true, sometimes people who performed his duty inmediately behind the lines and sometimes in the line were awarded the KVK as his activities need that they avoid contact with the enemy. Members of Nachrichtenn units, medicals, messengers, they risked their lives but with a priority, no contact with the enemy or his mission will end as a fault and his partners will be in serious problems. It's time to difference between a KVK awarded to a Gauleiter for his efforts n the recruitment and the one awarded to a Gefreiter for tending communication lines and repairing it under the treat of the enemy fire.

          Cheers

            Well said Angel!

If KVK II medals vs KVK II documents, the winner is the doc's!
You can built a nice collection with the documents, different units, scarce issues, nice high ranking signatures, time for recearch, more history on them,to name a few!
All of that for no more 20-30 EURO.

The medals is little cheaper but what you can built? different makers? zinc or brass pieces? ...

Start collecting them! They have the half price from the EK II doc's and they have all the advantages of the EK's doc's!

Sorry if i was out from topic.

The fact that this group is still there makes me wonder if there are indeed any serious Africa collectors out there... I find the Africa tittle award doc to be a sensational piece.
Check out at what level the KVKs were awarded at... http://www.therupturedduck.com/WebPa...ments/d223.htm

My opinion is that this officers tend to use the signatures and phisical awarding of this "low level" medals as a way to endure moral and as unofficial reward to his men, in this way they made a recognaise to the efforts of this soldiers who usually are missvalued by his comrades and ridiculizated by frontline veterans. There are several photos of Feldmarschalls and Generals awarding KVK to members from his staff or from Divisional staffs under his command. Surely you valued more an award if you are a modest gefreiter and messenger to the divisional staff if "your" general pinned the medal in your breast instead receiving the citation and the medal from an unknow leutnant.

                  Cheers
