What rank is this soldier?

I found this picture in a wartime magazine article on assault groups. This soldiers rank has me stumped. Can somebody help? WR Jim

He is a Sonderführer equivalent rank to Zugführer/Leutnant.

Here are some more details. You can see that these shoulder boards are much more narrow than the usual Wehrmacht ones. I thought these were for use within various administrations so not for fighting staff....
