    Art. Rgt. 81

Hi Fellas, I Just Aquired A Ek2 And Ost Medal Document To A Gefreiter In Art Rgt 81 And I Was Wondering If Anyone Knew Which Division This Unit Belonged To. Thanks Very Much For Any Help In Identifying This Unit! What Would Be The Best Reference Source For Researching This Information. Thanks Again, Rodger B.

Quickest way for us "amateurs" (and yes, I'm one!) is www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de.

In this case, you'd go to the website, click on the "zum lexikon" link, then in the Heer subsection, click on "Einheiten und Gliederung".

    Hope that helps,
    Hank

Some literal translations just don't work and J******228;ger= hunter is one of them in this context. Best just to keep it as 97 J******228;ger (or Jaeger) division.

The drink Jaegermeister after all isn't called huntermaster outside of German speaking countries is it?

If you'd like help in identifying the signatures or perhaps what action he might have got his EKII for, post scans here and we'd be glad to help.
