Hi Terry, I have a little more information on Gerhard Koppen for you. Born on 17-05-1918 in Holzendorf/Uckermark, he arrived as a Obergefreiter in 7./JG 52 on 06-10-1940 and achieved his first aerial victory on 24-06-1941. After 45 victories he was awarded the Ritterkreuz on 18-12-1941 as a Feldwebel. Following his 69-72 victories he was awarded the Eichenlaub (Nr 79) on 27-02-1942. Missing in action 05-05-1943 after aerial combat with Russian bombers over Akmonaj whilst flying Bf 109-4 7303 "Weiss 4". His brother Eckardt was killed in Jan 1945 as Unteroffizier in Fallschirm-Panzer Pioneer Battalion 2 "Hermann Goring" and posthumously awarded the Ritterkreuz. I hope I have been of some help.
Regards Richard.
Always looking for Luftwaffe Kampfflieger related document groups. In particular anything to Kampfgeschwader 2.
