        Well this is all very strange. Such a religious note on the back of a portrait showing - of all people! - an SS-Officer from either Totenkopfverb******228;nde or Totenkopfdivision? Here is what it says;

        Ave Jesus!
        Ave Maria!
        Ave saint Josef!

        My loyal and dear
        Huberti, a truely blessed
        meryful christmas feast 1958
and a habby new year 1959
        ever in gratitude
        Your Lilly

The rest of the text seems to be funny. Some joker even wrote "Sieg Heil" on the left of the postcard. The things under Lilly (who wrote the original text) seems to be added later. I also don't understand why anybody would send this as a greeting card. The stamp makes no sense either, it was never stamped so never posted. This photo has been badly messed with.

Edit: I just noticed Lilly wrote this text in M******252;nchen on 24.12.58, she appears to have lived in the Wieskirchstr. 4, appartement 5. M******252;nchen is my old home city and I even remember this street. A small world!

The back does not lessen the interest.
          Still a nice picture framed.....

I agree. I think it adds to the interest in this case.

My guess is that the writing on the back was done by the man's widow, as a sort of 'memoriam'. It looks like the kids' names have been added later.

There are a lot of Catholics in Munich......hence the religious bits.

Just a guess.........we will never know.

But a GREAT SS-T photo! I especially like the tabs and the police ribbon.

                    hi,

                    Very nice photo.
In the close up of the photo I can see written the word "DAX"-that may me think that this photo was taken in DAX that is a city located in France, not far from Bordeaux...
                    It is just a guess....

                    regards

                    Ciano

Great picture!! The small sized ribbon bar/s are not that often seen.
