    SS Gold Wound Badge Certificate

    Hello:
I am new to this and have a photo but can't figure out how to send it!
I have an SS Gold Wound Badge Certificate. Text as follows: SS-Obersturmbannfuhrer Paul Schleicher, 11. SS-Freiw.-Pz.-Gren.-Div. "Nordland", (SWITCHING TO ENGLISH) was on 29. Januar 1942 wounded for the 5th time. Certificate is signed Berlin 7. Febr. 1942. There is a blurred seal on the bottom left that appears to contain a Feldpost Number. It is signed by an SS Obergruppenfuhrer u. Div. Kdr. Sorry but at this time it is the best I can do until I figure out how to sent scans. I am under the impression that SS Division Nordland was formed in Feb. 1943. What part of the 11th Division existed in 1942. Any idea where they were fighting when he was wounded?

On the basis of what you said it's fake.
As you rightly point out the Nordland division didn't exist in Feb.42. Other than that, being signed by a divisional commander is highly suspiscious for a WB doc. Also in Berlin, what SS divisions were stationed in Berlin in Feb.42? None.

Posted for astrelick. I'Ve already told him (I believe) it's a fake. The style is a common fake, bad signature, as others have said too early for the unit's formation, and probably more.

Yep, a complete fabrication. Any of these 'big Z' WB docs need to be looked at a little more closely as it seems the style has been popular amongst the repro makers.

Put it this way, there's not much about it that's right but i guess a fuller explanation wouldn't hurt.

                1. Unit over a year before it ever existed...even on paper.
                2. Incorrect spelling of both Obersturmbannf******252;hrer and Obergruppenf******252;hrer (the use of u instead of ******252
                3. No evidence of an Obersturmbannf******252;hrer Schleicher ever existing
                4. Nordland's first commander was Fritz von Scholz, the sig is clearly nothing like his. Nor for that matter is it anything like the other Nordland commanders...not that any of them ever reached Obergruppenf******252;hrer anyway.
                5. The unit is too general. If he belonged to one of the division's sub-units then it should say so, especially as this is purporting to be coming from the division itself. If he belonged to the division's stab then it should say so.
                6. Explain why a style of doc in use by units belonging to wehrkreis X is being used by a W-SS division which has no connection with it, never existed at the time anyway, fought on the Eastern front and yet is strangely in Berlin?
                7. A doc style known to be in use by the fakers.
                8. Don't care for a divisional commander signing a WB doc anyway. One could also speculate how a relatively senior W-SS officer managed to get wounded 5 times by Jan.42.

                  Thanks

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I really got taken on this one. Need to be more careful when spending good paper for bad paper!
