Looks like the 'Dannebrog'........the Danish flag collar tab.
He's just a 'simple soldier'.......but old and he's the centre of attention. Look how relaxed he is with his hands in his pockets while the officers are a bit more respectful.
There's more to this picture than meets the eye. I wonder who he is?Last edited by Robin Lumsden; 12-03-2006, 02:36 PM.

I would be very surprised if this is anything else than a Dirlewanger collar tab (two crossed rifles above a laying handgrenade). In a black and white photo, the white cross of the Danish flag would be the most domintaing/clearest visible part of the collar tab, and here the angle of the "cross" would be completely wrong if if was the Dannebrog.
Judging from the soldiers age, he propably was an officer or NCO who did something wrong, lost his rank and was sent to "Dirlewanger". There he would get the chance to earn his decorations again and later his rank.
