what is a "press photo" ?

I have seen a number of WWII "press photos" for sale on sites. They are marked with a sticker on the back.

My question is.. what is press photo? is it a unique photo created at that time? Is it one of many hundreds of photos created at that time from one negative? Is is something else?

Ideally I'm looking for pictures taken and developed during the war and am wondering if "Press Photos" fit that catagory...

Also, I am very interested in amy Greek content WWII photographs.. any directions help?

This are pic's who published period or after the war.Most of this pic's were shot's from "Kriegsberichterstatter " .This pic's are not unique .

In the UK all the photos taken by the combat cameramen were made available to the various news agencies to use as they saw fit. Thats why you can now get a copy of a photo from The IWM for ******163;5. The exact same photo in one of the news agencies would cost you about ******163;60! There were many copies floating about and I presume these are the ones turning up on ebay, I assume the Germans did the same with their photos.

I found the website but could not loacate any photo archive or anything in the "gift shop"... any help would be appreciated. Copies would be fine and at reasonable price, I am looking to add some pics to my displays

I am an avid collector of TR press photos. As others have already mentioned, these were produced in more than one copy. These were distributed throughout the press agencies of the TR. Yes, these are period photos and not post war copies, in most cases. The backs of the photos do not have a sticker, they are a paper caption glued to the back of the photo providing a suggested caption for the press agencies to use in their publications. The backs of the photos are also normally stamped with the press agency's name. The quality of these photos in most cases are much clearer and sharper since the Kriegsberichter's used high quality cameras of the time. The prices of press photos seem to be going up in recent years.

Todd, yes the photos have a caption glued to the back (not a sticker) are also stamped. so i would believe that they are original period photos BUT given they are going for 30- 60 Euro per PHOTO!!! , a little to steep for my taste... I might just go the copy route for under 7 Euro.

Too bad, I would really like to get original period photos but the prices are just too high.

Remember...today's expensive prices are tomorrow's cheap ones.

I have no ides how much Koblenz charges but as the originals should be in the Archive there surely they would be cheaper?
