Hello,

are these original drawings by Liska or reproductions from one of his sketchbooks? I'm familiar with these sketches (at least one of them should be included in the 1944 sketchbook published by Buhrbanck), however I couldn't tell from the pictures you uploaded whether these are original or reproduction, the portfolio-styled Buhrbanck books were published in offset printing, which allows for a very accurate reproduction of the original drawings.

In another thread you mention the album was found in Stalingrad, some further details would be great. I'd be glad to help with the translation.

Both are in 1944 book, and the first is found also in 1942 book.

I would like to see a photo of the "original" drawing with a scale on it, or a extreme close up. The books are offset printed and looks very good but still are in 4-color process colors, and can be identified as such by magnifiers.

Ah, that TRF thread eluded me, I was actually refering to an earlier one on this forum. Very interesting pictures, I must admit these don't look like they were taken from a known publication. Many exhibit numbers which are missing from the portfolio sketchbooks. Unless these are some sort of 'proof copies' they may very well be original drawings of Liska. I wasn't aware he lost an entire stash of his sketches about mid-war!

I'm not that comfortable with the Stalingrad story, one would have to confirm if Liska was actually there (through his family perhaps). Some of the drawings were published *much* later (in late-1944 issues of Signal, for example), but most could very well have been produced at an earlier date, so that story may add up after all.

These are 100% originals, I had them tested by expert. About Stalingrad styry, I'm not sure if it's right. My friend's grandfather passed away before I bought drawings.

I am not saying that your paintings are not the original. Looks like you're seeking for a buyer. If you follow my advise, you will more likely to find a buyer who will pay huge dollars for them.

Looks to me like these are printed pages either from the 1944 book or from the 1990s reprint edition of that book. Here is a page from my 1944 Liska book that perfectly matches one of the images shown. Cheers, Torsten.
