    SS Award

    Hi All
Is this a rare document and what do you think it might be worth I have tried to research the generalleutnant who I think was Debes but there seems to be some confusion as to when he left the 6th ss geb div nord ie most sites on the net have Debes handing over to kruger in 1943 but debes signed this doc in April 1944 ! This document was given to me by a member of the pre WWII german royal family !! so is an original

I'm not sure it's particularly rare, there were plenty of KVK 2nd class awarded to SS people. Somebody might pay a couple dollars more due to the doc being in good condition, or if they were particularly interested in that unit. Maybe $125 or so, SS stuff always commands a premium.

Hope that helps, and welcome to the forum!

Nice doc. The KVKII is about as common as it gets but SS stuff always commands a premium. What is unusual is what part of Nord this soldier belonged to, the commanders headquarters. According to Debes bio he took over Nord in Dec.43 and left in May 44.

I simply meant that it's uncommon to see something to a ranker on the staff of the divisional commander. I wonder what his job might have been? driver, batman, clerk?

            Re SS Award Doc

            Hi again

I thought that because the award was issued in the field that he was a combat soldier. I have Fritz Vater's 1959 issue photo drivers licence which has his DOB as 23rd October 1906. Both items were given to me by a good friend manfred von ohlsen. Acording to him it was leftbehind at his mothers home in Goslar in the Hertz mountains. How would you go about researching such a thing

            Thanks again

'In the field' doesn't mean a combat soldier at the front, more like not in your permanent home barracks or away on operations.

I wonder why it was left behind there? Perhaps it was during the time the division moved through Germany on it's transfer from Finland\Norway to take part in Nordwind in January '45?

BTW, do you know why he was awarded the KVK on that date?

                Re SS Award

                Hello again simon

The only information I have is what I have told you so far . Manfred used to collect tin plate toys and and dinky cars. Whilst showing me collection of war time post cards I noticed the award and drivers licence and he gave them to me on condition I would never sell them !!. Your reply has got me wondering why the 1959 drivers license was with a 1944 award ??? Is there any way to check personel lists for the unit back in 1944. As I have said I am 100% sure it's the real thing!!! But still leaves me with many questions .
