    Promotion posthumously ?

Has anyone ever seen a posthumously promotion as a sort of honor to the fallen soldier?

Are there documents relating to this? Are these rare?

    thanks

Yes...it is not uncommon for this to occur for both officers and men.

The ones I have are typed and not official but relate to posthumous promotion.....and on some occassions into units that they did not serve in...or their pre war units.

Sorry not at home to provide any scans at the moment......

      Hi Ian,
thanks for your reply. Would love to see some pictures of both the non-official as the official document relating to posthumous promotions.

      thanks!

        Posthumous promotions....

I have one for a 16Pz Kompanie CO (from Obltn to Hptm) who was lost at Stalingrad, by authority of Gen Schmundt in January '44.
