Check these out. Just don't look formatted like the other docs I have or have seen. They correct? (Esp. the lack of the waffenampt stamp on the bottom left corner on the WB???). Thanks as always for the help.

A missing stamp is no huge red flag. Both docs appear at first glance to be okay. Maybe somebody with more knowledge on Afrika Korps units can give you a definitive

The wound badge document was signed by the batallion commander, Hauptmann Héraucourt. The batallion history book mentions your man, Wielpütz as one of the "heavily injured and went into captivity around Sidi Omar" (Fiebig/Keller S.63) on November 25th. The batallion suffered from heavy casualties on this day.Comment

Looks good to me too. Interesting unit for the DAK collector.
As Hank said the lack of unit stamp on the WB doc is not a big worry.
BTW, waffenamt means ordnance office. The guys that dealt with weapons and equipment.Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.Comment

One last ? Why would the cufftitle be issued in '44? Did the unit slip out? Seems like if it was captured in No. Afrika, some other unit would have given this individual his cufftitle? Thanks again,

No the unit didn't get out but we don't know when this soldier was brought out. Could have been because of his wound back in '41. Note that the stamp is from a training and replacement unit, a bit difficult to read but it looks like it could be panzer aufkl******228;rungs ersatz und ausbildungs abteilung 1.Originally posted by theinglebaby23 View Post

He was sent to africa sometime in 1941 as a member of Aufkl.Abt.33, in Nov.41 he was wounded and evacuated back to Germany, perhaps he was even discharged because of his wound. Then in 1944 the paperwork system finally catches up to him and he's issued his Afrika cufftitle by the relevant depot unit for Aufkl.Abt.33. Usually a soldier had to have served 6 months in theater to qualify but that could be waived if wounded.Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.Comment
