Medals
I have been fortunate enough to have ran into many different 3rd Div. veterans who liberated medals from Schloss Klessheim. Mostly Eagle Orders and RK d. KVK. Unfortunately, never an RK of the Iron Cross and my Oak Leaf box only with ribbon. The vet's wife used the oakleaves for jewelry and lost it.
I went to the reunion of the signal battalion of the 3rd Division and met several veterans and established contact with a few who sent me medals and still have many in my own collection.
MANY readers and collectors don't believe that this story is true or that the GIs found the medals, but I can tell you it is exactly as stated. I KNOW they got hundreds of medals from the soldiers who liberated this castle and I have talked with a large number of the men and bought from several. A true gold mine of original stock.
