        Yes i believe it is a sign of mourning. I have a similar photo in a soldbuch which also mentions the death of the soldier's father.
        Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.

            Do the black armbands you see now and then have the same purpose as these black ribbons? (Not the ones used in training exercices)
