    Hauptmann Kurt Geisler

    Hello.

Could someone provide pictures and info on Hauptmann der Luftwaffe Kurt Geisler?

A museum in Breda has his Ehrenpokal, and asked me to try and find some info on the man.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Kind regards, Alex

    Hello Alex,

I remember this being discussed on a german forum some months ago. Here are the results (no photo, unfortunately) + some additions from yet another forum:

    Hauptmann Kurt Geisler

Born: 28.1.1914 Hennersdorf Krs. Reichenbach/Niederschlesien (Lower Silesia)
    Died: 6.9.1943 near Cambridge/England

    Knight's Cross 24.1.1943
Ehrenpokal 1.2.1943 (I believe the Ehrenpokal is engraved with a different date [22.1.1943], so perhaps the "1.2.1943" date is form the Ehrenpokal list. Right now there is a similar case being discussed here on the Luftwaffe board [differing dates on Ehrenpokal and list], so apparently this did happen.)

Since 1940 he had in been in action as a transport flyer and participated 1941 in "Operation Merkur" (Crete). He was awarded the KC for his achievements as Commander of the Lufttransportgruppe Don, especially for bringing badly-needed supply into the Stalingrad-Kessel. In May 1943 he was made Staffelführer of 3./Schnellkampfgeschwader 10.

In the night of the 6th September 1943 his Fw 190 A-5/U8 (Gelbe 1) was shot down by a Mosquito Mk.XII of 85 Sq. (Houghton & Patson) and crashed at Filey's Farm, Hawstead, Nr Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk at 21.45 hrs.

    More than 300 front-flights.

    Hope this helps a bit!
