    A tad off topic,
but it contains a flag so i'll post it anyway
A great shot for uniform and helmet buffs. Soldiers of the 1st Battalion of the Spanish "Blue Division".

    Hope you liked them.

    Patrick.

Outstanding colors! I love the russian smock photo! Is the Spanish picture a postcard, or? It's a very familar photo to me because it's in Carell's photo book.

      Thank you for sharing!

        Although no coloured pictures ...

        Hi Daniel,

Just went through my loose pictures and found three (Wehrmacht Gebirgsjaeger off course ... ) that apply to your question.

The first one is on a ship entering the Narvik harbour. I don't know for sure if these are troops entering before or after the battle. But taking note of the surroundings beeing without damage or sunken ships, I'd say before.

The second and third are real 'one-timers' ! These are on top of the Elbrus ... (need I say more).

These have to be of the second attempt, as the first one was in terrible weather.

                Hello Akira,
you are indeed correct. The colour photo of the Spaniards is from Carells book, but it is such a superb image i couldn't resist posting it!

                All the best,

                Patrick.

                  Spanish Blue Legion

                  Wow!
Nice and superb photo, Patrick! It reminds me next April I´ll travel to Santander (north of Spain) to talk with a veteran (90 years old!) who fought in Russia... It´s quite rare to find such a source of "history and information", here in Spain.
                  Regards.

                    Hey GJR100,
Those are some great photos! I really like the one of the ship with the Reich service flag being used, I've never seen that flag on a ship before. Thanks!!

                            Hello Óscar,
Would it be possible to let us know the outcome of the meeting with the "Blue division" Veteran?
I suspect he may be very surprised to find out there is global interest in his time in Russia. Try to take a copy of the photo to your meeting...it might help refresh his memory.

                            Glad you liked the photo,
                            all the best,

                            Patrick.

                              "Blue Division" veteran

Hi Patrick! Of course I´ll do it! Nowadays it´s quite rare to find a veteran with fresh memory to relate all he lived in the war. Besides, here in Spain they are not "politically correct"... You know. I think they played a interesting role there in Russia fighting with courage.
"My vet" is my best friend´s wife´s relative. An old man with many memories (he fought at Leningrado, but i can´t ensure it by now)...
I have another friend whose uncle fought there. He told me several stories and showed some letters. This guy wasn´t enough happy fighting hand to hand with germans... He meant scorn-treatment. I´ll keep you informed.
                              All the best. Óscar

Dear Oscar, does he happen to be a survivor of Wswad battle? Just like Cholm, Wswad was a battle to be remembered...
