    Russian Archive Photos?

    Hello
Does anyone have any knowledge about Russian archive photos of German's. I have a couple SS and HJ examples. The reverse has a Russian inventory stamp, with an illegible signature. The more I look at them, the more I do not like them. They seem to have a dull matte finish, crinkle edge, and look aged. What brought me to wondering is that I am starting to see them on eBay coming from the Ukraine. Are these actual period photos or modern duplicates? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Anthony,
Yes, these are postwar or fakes. If the stamps look like the ones the Eastern Europeans are selling on ebay, they're no good.

      Hi Tim
Thanks for the advice. I only have 3 examples, but I guess thats 3 examples too many. I got these in trade last year, and I have always wondered about them. Thanks for clearing my brain. I used to see SS "archive" examples and was told that the Russians were using them to ID war criminals--made sense. Now I see them of just about every branch of German service. It is amazing, photos used to be a safe buy--not any longer. Thanks again----Anthony

Torra, if I am not mistaken, partizzan is one of the more notorious sellers of repo photos. I was lucky enough to see a warning here about him! Sorry.

Its too bad as they are great images....It seems like they will fake just about anything these days. I guess I am safe with my ID's---for now....

I like his "disclaimer"! Something to the effect of:

"...no arguments, bad words or afflictions!"
