I can't believe that nobody have an idea !
Let's try to have some clues about the soldier :

    Oakleaves recipient

WWI veteran : i'm sure that the Imperial chapter might help us since this guy wears a crossed swords (or a crown ?) on a WWI ribbon at the buttonhole : this is undoubtly a scarce award.

Holder of the Demjansk schield (as far as I can see)

According to these first elements, I would say he might be one of those following soldiers :

    Kurt v. Tippelskirch
    Walter v. Seydlitz-Kurbach
    Johannes Mayer
    Wilhelm Hasse
    Walter Graf v. Brockdorff-Ahlefeldt

These soldiers belong to units involved in the Demjansk kessel (12 ID, 30 ID, 32 ID, 223 ID, 290 ID and II AK).

    Who can help us ??

    Many thanks in advance

    Denis

      Hi Denis!

Your detective work appears to have borne fruit - I'm pretty certain that the gentleman is Wilhelm Hasse. I'll e-mail you the pic I have of him for comparison.

Many thanks for putting my mind at ease,

      Regards,

Here is the photo sent by Valdis and depicting Wilhelm Hasse
Both are seemingly very close. I will check in my books this evening to be definitively sure.

          Hello
After checking in my book, I am now not sure that the first photo depicts Wilhelm Hasse.
Hasse was awarded the DKiG on 26/01/42, long before earning the KC (12/08/44) and the OL (14/01/45).
Should this be Hasse, he might wear the DK.
Besides, seeing this photo, I have the feeling that it was rather taken in 42-43 than in 1945.
Would somebody can give us more info about the soldier's WWI awards ?
          Regards
          Denis

            Hello Denis.
This is a shot in the dark:
picture bears a great resemblence with Gen.d.Inf. Hans-Karl v. Scheele. However I cnnot establish a connection to the Demjansk Shield. The Imperial award in the button hole appears to be the Royal House Order of Hohenzollern K.C.w.Swords of which Gen. v.Scheele was a recipient based on pictures of him.

              Hi!
It's not v.Scheele. Erich Straube? Hellmuth Bölhke?
              Johannes Frießner? Eduard Hauser?

              Annoying to not know......

Many thanks Paal and Bernhard !
you avoid me a headache crisis. Here is some info :

                  LÜTZOW (Frhr. v.) KURT-JÜRGEN
                  DoB : 07/08/1892
                  DoD : 20/07/1961
                  Last rank : GENERALLEUTNANT
                  Last unit : XXXV. A.K.
                  EK1 : 13/10/1939
                  DKiG : Not awarded
                  RK : 15/08/1940 (186th) as Obst. GRE. RGT. 89 (12. INF. DIV.)
EL : 21/10/1941 (37th) as Obst. same unit

As a supposed member of the 12 ID, he was very probably awarded the Demjanskschild.

                  Regards
                  Denis

                    You're all great, my respect.

I believe this picture was taken before he got his EL, as the commander of Infanterie-Regiment 89.

Many thanks to everyone for their contributions, it's a relief finally to know!

Bernard H. Holst mentioned a possible resemblance to Scheele. As this is one of the Generals I don't have a pic of, perhaps Bernard (or anyone else) could post a pic of the gentleman. I would be extremely grateful.

                      Regards,
